Join me for an exhilarating adventure in contemporary figure painting with mixed media. During this workshop you will initially work from a model. Focusing first on observation, then using your drawings as starting points, work toward interpretive abstraction using multiple processes. Recommended for continuing artists and very adventurous beginners who have some experience in figure drawing/painting.

This workshop involves creating artworks from a variety of materials. Artists acquire a great many supplies in their experiments with form and color. You will already have many of these materials.
Please note that the list below is a general reference list for your perusal.
Many items are optional and will be approached with ample demonstrations and discussion.
Graphite pencils and water-based graphite pencils or colored pencils
Black Rembrandt soft pastel
Black India ink /
Powdered Graphite (optional) Micron or other commercial marker pens
Oil pastels and/ or oil pigment sticks ( optional)
PAPERS/ SURFACES TO WORK ON:
Large 18”x24” drawing pad and 2 or more individual sheets of 22″x30″sturdy drawing or watercolor paper. for work with our model
PRE-PRIME 1 SHEET WATERCOLOR AND/OR DRAWING PAPER FOR PAINTING WITH WHITE ACRYLIC GESSO
Canvases, wood panels,( gessoed) or watercolor paper ( gessoed) (you choose)
PAINTS: White Gesso/ Black Gesso
Choice of acrylics and brushes( need not be expensive)
Brands: Golden ( liquid or tube) or Nova (purchase online from Nova Paints)
Hansa yellow med,
Permanent Rose or Quinacridone Rose,
Ultramarine blue, Pthalo blue,
Acrylic gel medium – for possible collage gluing
Hand pencil sharpener-/ 220 sand paper for sharpening/ Walsco Utility Knife
Throwaway thin plastic gloves and/ or dustmask
Scissors , Erasers- kneaded and hard plastic
Masking tape or artists drafting tape- 1 1/2 inch
Drawing board- large enough for 18”x24” paper ( foam core and clips preferable)
Paint palette ( roll of wax paper & cookie sheet will do nicely)
Cheap hardware store- chinese bristle brushes 1” 2 “ & / 3
Assorted scrapers and other improvised tools you may have
Other papers for possible collage use
Water containers- good size,
70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol
Citra Solv ( for pigment sticks) (optional)
